Geraldine Whitt Aycock passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, August 6th at Forest Manor Long Term Healthcare Facility in Tuscaloosa Alabama. She was 100 years of age. She was born on February 16, 1923 in Ardmore, Tennessee to Raymond and Pearl Gautney Whitt, who preceded her in death. They moved to Decatur at a very early age where Mrs. Aycock lived most of her life. She graduated from Riverside High School in Decatur Alabama.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 65 years, Johnnie H. Aycock of Decatur, longtime owner of Aycock’s Radio Shack; and a brother, Raymond O.D. Whitt, Jr.of Guntersville Alabama; and a brother-in-law, Colonel William Nelms of Alexandra Alabama.
She is survived by two sons and their families – Johnnie R. Aycock and her daughter-in-law, Miriam R. Aycock, both of Tuscaloosa Alabama; and Bobby G. Aycock and wife, Laurie Aycock, both of Birmingham Alabama; a sister, Pam Whitt Nelms of Alexandria Alabama; four grandchildren and their families – Jonathan Aycock (Malinda), Gainesville Georgia; Jason Aycock (Leanne), Tuscaloosa; Reagen Ikard (David), Tuscaloosa; and Curry Jungerhans (Marius), New York City, NY; six great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A stay-at-home mother and homemaker, she was also involved alongside her husband in their small business, and alsoactive in a wide range of community and church activities. A long-time member of First Baptist Church of Decatur, at the time of her death, she was the oldest member. She served in many areas of the church and was known for her role in the church’s hospitality and decorating committees. She was a member and past president of the Travelers Garden Club and an active member and Past President of the Decatur Women’s Chamber of Commerce

A graveside service for family and friends will be held at the Decatur City Cemetery on Friday, August 11th at 11:00 am conducted by Ridout’s Brown Service Funeral Home with Reverend Wilson Henderson officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to Oasis Hospice of Tuscaloosa or First Baptist Church of Decatur’s children or music ministries.
