Mr. George Speer Sr. Funeral services for Mr. George Speer, Sr., age 84, are scheduled for 1pm Monday, April 14, 2025, in the chapel of Pafford Funeral Home with burial to follow in Independence Cemetery. He was born December 6, 1940 in Henderson County to the late James Mays Speer and Leanna O’Guinn Speer. He was a retired bus driver for Anchor (formally Brantley Bus). He was in the National Guard and a member of Cheap Valley Masonic Lodge. He moved to Chicago Illinois in 1970, returned in 1995 and opened Blue Goose Mini Mart. In 1997, he started driving for Brantley Bus that was later became Anchor until January 2025. Survivors include his son, George Speer Jr (Nicole): three daughters, Rita (Nickie) Sylvester, Retonia (John) Woods, and Renita (William) Peppers: two brothers, Charles (Geninda) Speer and Lee (Sue) Speer; two sisters, Betty (late Gordon) Whitaker and Phyllis (Paul) Forgette; five grandchildren, Teresa Sylvester, Robin McMinn, Kyle Peppers, Ellie Mae Speer, and George Speer III; and two great-grandchildren; Sam and Shane McMinn.
