George Jarvis Ellis III, 59, died Tuesday, September 5, 2017. A graduate of Coffee High School and the University of North Alabama, he was the president of Phi Gamma Delta. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Florence. He retired from banking after 25 years.
Mr. Ellis was preceded in death by his parents, George Jarvis Ellis Jr. and Marilee Turpen Ellis.
Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Marcia Walker Ellis, of Florence; sons, George J. Ellis IV (Amy) and Cy Stanford Ellis (Mollie); brother, Lt. Col. Hayes G.T. Ellis (Han); grandchildren, Zoë, Samuel, and Bo; mother-in-law, Louise Walker; sisters-in-law, Brenda Medley and Cookie Michelsen (Gary); brother-in-law, Jimmy Walker (Holly) and Freeman Medley; and nieces and nephews, Brent Medley, Brooke Edie, Kimberly Craft, Meghan and Houston Walker, and Marilee Ellis.
The family will have a private service on Saturday, Sept. 9, and will receive friends of the family at their home between 3 and 5 p.m.
The family wishes to thank the staff at UAB Palliative Care and asks that donations be made there in lieu of flowers.
