George Harvard Cook, 69, of Jasper, passed away peacefully at home on November 15, 2025, after a long battle with cancer.
George was preceded in death by his Parents-Milford and Bethel Cook; Sister-Allison Tucker; and Brothers-John Cook and Manley Cook.
He is survived by his Wife-Vanesa; Daughter-Melissa Van Kirk (Josh) of Fort Mitchell, AL; Son-Timothy Cook of Vestavia Hills, AL; Sister-Cathy Cook of Hoover, AL; Brothers-Thomas Cook of Hoover, AL and Robert Cook of Jasper; Grandson-Liam Smith of Fort Mitchell, AL; Father-in-law-Floyd Guthrie of Carbon Hill; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
George was a 1974 graduate of Walker High School, where he lettered in football, wrestling, and tennis. He was an ordained deacon at Northside Baptist Church, where he sang in the choir and taught children’s Sunday School for many years. He was an avid Alabama football fan, so much so that he waited until the end of the loss to Oklahoma to pass. He enjoyed any opportunity to take a road trip until he was no longer physically able to travel. George had a kind, generous spirit and never met a stranger, but his primary passion was the life he built with his wife of 47 years.
Visitation with the family will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2025 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Collins Burke Funeral Home, with a memorial service to follow. David Byrd will officiate. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Missions Fund at Northside Baptist Church.
