George Green Thornton, 86, passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at Sanctuary Hospice House. He was born January 10, 1938 to the late Ira Green Thornton and the late Narcie Franks Thornton. He was a member of Sandy Springs Baptist Church. He was a member of Fairview Lodge #457, Corinth Scottish Rite as a 32 degree Mason, also a member of Hamasa Shriners, and founding member of the Itawamba Shriners Club. He retired from Dura Containers with over 40 years of service. George loved playing with his grandkids and great-grandchildren.
Graveside service with Masonic rites will be 2:00 pm on Saturday November 30, 2024 at Sandy Springs Baptist Church with Bro. Kevin Hatfield and Bro. Mike Deaton officiating. Burial will be at Sandy Springs Cemetery. Senter Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
Survivors include his sons: Greg (Denise) Thornton of Fulton, Tony (Michelle) Thornton of Cherokee, AL, and Brian Thornton of Fulton; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; sister, Betty Umphers, special brother-in-law, Joe (Diane) Maze of Corinth.
Preceded in death by his parents; wife, Alice Sue Thornton, brothers: Bon Gene Thornton, Ray “R.L.”, brother, Vadrel Thornton; sisters: Ella Quay Rogers and Beatrice Taylor.
