Gene W. Sanders passed away at home on May 26, 2023 surrounded by loved ones. Gene was a kind man, he loved the Sanders Family, and loved family to be around him at home. Gene, was a son, brother, father, grandfather, and great-grand father. He touched many lives and will be greatly missed.

Gene was a lifelong resident of Huntsville and long time resident of the Blossomwood neighborhood. He lived life for his family and wife of 61 years, Jane. He graduated from Huntsville High School in 1954, and enjoyed reunions and fellowships with many classmates through the years. Gene graduated from University of North Alabama with a degree in chemistry and spent his career working for Thiokol, Boeing, Huntsville real estate, and retired from the Army Missile Command.

He was active in the church and served as a deacon at Central Church of Christ, attended Mayfair Church of Christ, and supported Willowbrook Baptist Church. He was a baptized believer and most proud of his children and grandchildren, teaching them to live their life for Jesus Christ. A dedicated father and grandfather, Gene loved to be around his six grandchildren, and bragged on their academic achievements and college athletics.

He was preceded in death by parents, John and Alane Sanders; brother, Ronald Sanders; grandson, Grant Sanders Hill; and special aunt, Mary Elizabeth Wallace. He is survived by his wife, Jane Sanders; son, Jeff Sanders (Erica); daughter, Stacey Hill (Brad); grandchildren, Brian Hill (Leigh Ann), Ashley Sanders Howell (Nathan), Clay Sanders, Hunter Hill (Bailey), and Brooke Sanders; great grandchildren, Claire Ann Hill, Luke William Hill, Noah Claude Hill; sister-in-law, Janice Sanders; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held at Laughlin Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 31 from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. A graveside service will follow at 11 a.m. at Maple Hill Cemetery.
