Obituary of Gene Brooks Millican Jr. Our beloved father, Gene Brooks Millican, Jr., passed away peacefully on the 20th day of February 2025 at the age of 78. He is survived by his children, Gene Brooks Millican III, Anthony Blake Millican, and Shannon LeAnn Millican; his grandchildren, Riley Millican, Evie Millican, Lauren McCoy, Cash McCoy, and Grant McCoy; his brothers, Wm. Allen Millican (Donna), Jack Millican, and Jody Millican; and nephews, Jacob Millican and Jared Millican.

His father Gene Brooks Millican Sr. and his mother Evelyn Marie (Cricket) Mackey preceded him in death as well as his beloved dogs, Foxie and Boudreaux.

Gene was born in Gadsden and grew up in Attalla and Alabama City. He left Emma Sansom High School in 1963 for a tour of duty in the United States Navy. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Submarine School in June 1964. He served aboard the USS Skate one of the First Nuclear Class Submarines. Gene returned home in 1967 and started his own plumbing business. He worked for Republic Steel, later LTV Steel for 17 years while continuing his education. He received an associate degree from Gadsden State Community College in 1971 and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, in 1973. While his passion and intentions were medical school, he changed course and opted for law school. He received a Juris Doctorate from The Birmingham School of Law in 1980. He later went into real estate working with the National Auction Group and traveled extensively throughout the United States. Gene was a Mason as well as a Shriner. He loved his horses and was a farrier.

There will be a graveside service at Oak Hill Cemetery, Attalla, AL on Monday, February 24, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. Collier-Butler Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
