Gatha “Gay” L. Franks Stanley, 89, of Sheffield, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 24, 2016. She was born on February 18, 1927 in Haleyville, Alabama and was the daughter of William A. and Charity D. (Berryhill) Franks. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, daughter-in-law, Kathy Stanley and great-granddaughter, Cristina Silvers.
Survivors include her son, Bill Stanley of Killen; daughter, Sandy Stanley Gann (Duane), Tupelo, Mississippi; sister, Esther Stults, Haleyville; 6 grandchildren, Tammy Stanley Bailes (Charles), Stephanie Trousdale Darby (Shane), Matt Trousdale, Shawn Trousdale, Raven Gann Kirkland (Jarome), Nathan Gann (Monique); 12 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Gay was a member of Westside Church of Christ in Sheffield and loved her church family. She worked at Southland restaurant for 42 years and was known for her famous pies. She also enjoyed cooking for her family and her chicken and dressing will be greatly missed every holiday. She enjoyed quilting, ceramics, reading, working puzzles and visiting her friends at the Tuscumbia Senior Center.
Gay was a very hard working independent lady that adored her family and loved serving others. She had a great sense of humor and kept everyone laughing. Everyone that she he came in contact with loved her. Gay will be forever loved and missed until we reunite again in heaven.
Visitation will be 11:00 a.m.- 1:00 p.m., July 27, 2016 at Colbert Memorial Funeral Home in Tuscumbia. Funeral Services will be at 1:00 p.m. at Colbert Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Colbert Memorial Gardens. Officiating will be Gerald Sockwell.
