-Funeral service for Captain Gary Wayne “Greasey” Scoggin, age 63, of Trinity, will be Monday, March 23, 2015, at 11 a.m. at Harmony Baptist Church with Rev. John Evans, Rev. Wendell Bennett and Rev. Barry Cater officiating and Parkway Funeral Home directing. Visitation is tonight from 5 to 8 at the church. Burial will be at East Lawrence Memorial Gardens with Sheriff’s Department and Masonic honors.
Captain Scoggin, who died Saturday, March 21, 2015, at Lawrence Medical Center, was born November 29, 1951, in Town Creek, to Floyd Demus Scoggin and Mae Ella Kidd. Mr. Scoggin was employed as Deputy Sheriff. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Bell Diving LeCompte; and grandparents, Nick and Etta Scoggin and Daniel and Fannie Kidd.
Survivors include his wife, Karen Presley Scoggin; sons, Justin (Amanda), Drue Scoggin and Hunter Brower; daughters, Jennifer Melcher (Danny) and Dannon LeCompte (Jason); grandchildren, Kaitlin Barnes, Brooklyn Melcher, Jacob Crider, Gavin Barnes, Jayden LeCompte, Raylee Thomas, Scarlett LeCompte and Emma Scoggin; and sister, Susan Kirby (Steve).
Pallbearers will be Danny Smith, Brian Anderton, Edwin Smith, Frankie Yarbrough, Tom Smith and Cullie Johnson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Lawrence County Sheriff and Deputies, Donald Vance and Ronnie Blakenship.
