Ms. Gail Hunter Williams Gail Hunter Williams, 77, of Arab, AL, passed away on September 10, 2023, at Marshall Manor Nursing and Rehab, Guntersville, AL, due to complications from COVID. Gail was born in Arab, AL, on September 3, 1946, upstairs at the old Arab Hospital on Main Street. She was born three months prematurely and was not expected to survive. Her parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and friends all contributed to Gail’s survival and development. Especially important in her life were her grandparents Rev. Carl and Ollie Martin, PawPaw and MawMaw, who lived on a farm in Holly Pond, AL. She lived for most of her youth in the Wellborn community outside Anniston, AL. She graduated high school from Wellborn High in 1964. Besides Anniston and Oxford, AL, she also lived in Indiana, Hawaii, Germany, and Utah. She moved into Diversicare of Arab nursing home in 2020 and thrived there, much loved by other residents and the wonderful staff. In October of 2022 she moved to Marshall Manor Nursing and Rehab in Guntersville to share a room with her beloved sister, Diane Hunter. Her stay at Marshall Manor was a very good time in her life. The staff there loved sweet Gail and she loved them back. She especially enjoyed playing Bingo twice a week. Most of all she loved being with her sister, with whom she had shared a room growing up. Gail is survived by her devoted son, Matt Williams of San Francisco, CA; her sister, Diane Hunter, of Arab, AL; her brother, Don Hunter, of Arab, AL; and her brother-in-law, Jim Govek, of Berkeley, CA. She also had two grandchildren whom she adored, Barrett and Jaxen Williams of Jacksonville, AL. No service will be held. Her family urges everyone who knew and loved Gail to remember what a kind, gentle, loving, sweet person she was and how much she adored animals, and to strive to emulate that kindness. We are so grateful to Gail’s doctor, Jeffrey Saylor, for his care and kindness over many years, to all the caretakers involved in Gail’s last years of life, and to the angels who work at Marshall Manor.
