Frances Gatewood – Obituary

Mrs. Frances Gatewood of Middleton departed this life at the age of 92 years, 7 months and 15 days at
Jackson-Madison County General Hospital in Jackson, Tennessee.

She was born in Saulsbury April 18, 1920 to the late Grover Cleveland and Rosie Belle Bryant Burnette and
lived her entire life in the Hardeman County area. In June of 1936, she was united in marriage to David
Lester Gatewood, who preceded her in death September 22, 1988. She was a homemaker and enjoyed
gardening, flowers, and spending time with family and friends. Her family stated she “lived life to the fullest.”
She was a member of Rocky Springs Baptist Church and a former member of West Memorial Baptist
Church.

Mrs. Gatewood is survived by two daughters, Phyllis Lax of Middleton and Wanda Sasser of Middleton; a
son, Bobby Gatewood of Walnut; a sister, Velmer Cooper of Georgia; nine grandchildren, ten great-
grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by a son, William Jerald “Butch” Gatewood
and a grandson, Michael Gatewood.
