Get Dirty at the Library is a gardening series sponsored by FLPL and The Alabama Cooperative Extension System. “I Was Designed to Save the World”- Let’s Talk About The Avengers: Age of Ultron

By now, you’ll have probably seen The Avengers: Age of Ultron and will be itching to talk about it with other fans. At this program, film scholar Dr. Cynthia Burkhead will discuss the film and how it fits into writer/director Joss Whedon’s body of work. Danny Vaughn and Jed Perry, formerly of the House of Heroes comic shop, will talk about how the film compares to storylines in the comics. Our panelists will also answer questions and lead a laid-back discussion about the movie and all things Marvel.

While you’re at the park for Arts Alive, walk over to the library to meet two local authors as they sell and sign copies of their books.

Jacqueline Segars Behrens will be promoting her book From the Outhouse to the World: A Global Tour of the Mind and Soul. In this memoir, Ms. Behrens shares how she overcame adversity to achieve her dreams. Behrens has degrees from Florence State College (now UNA) and Texas Christian University, and she studied cross-cultural communications at the University of Texas at Austin. She has taught elementary, secondary, and college students and has lived in, worked in, or visited about 80 countries.

Debbie Bell Bradford will be promoting her book Finding Joy On Your Journey Through Grief. The book is a compilation of lessons she learned while grieving her father and searching for answers. Ms. Bradford has a degree from Auburn University and works in public relations.

Local author Alice Hill will do a reading from her new ebook The Quest of Christian. The book tells the story of a young man who found out that there was more to believe in than just himself. He was so happy about that he wanted to tell all his friends about the Great King of Light in the City of Light, so he went on a great journey to tell all the people he knew to come with him to the City of Light.

Beer and a Book, sponsored by Florence-Lauderdale Public Library, is a book club focusing on food-themed memoir and literature. The book for May is The Call of the Farm by Rochelle Billow.
