Floyd Thomas “Tom” Place – Obituary

Floyd Thomas “Tom” Place, 58, of Decatur passed away Monday, October 7, 2013, at his residence. Tom was born December 2, 1954, in Birmingham to Bud and Marjorie Place. He is survived by his wife of twenty years Anoush Place; two daughters, Mary Margaret Place and Karen Vivian Place; his mother, Marjorie Place; one brother, John Place (Ann) of Birmingham; two nephews, Zane Place and Jevon Place (Alison); one niece, Chandra Place (John Robert Kingston); and two great-nephews, Jaxon Place and John Robert Kingston Jr.

Tom was president of Construction Services, Inc. He was a devoted father, husband and friend. Tom loved his community and generously supported it. He had a passion for golfing with his best friends, and was a charter member of Byrd-Bass Golf Tournament at Decatur Country Club. He loved traveling with his family, and spending time with his beloved dog, Nick. He adored his daughters and cherished all the great times they spent together at their house on Smith Lake. Tom was an avid Alabama fan and faithfully supported the Crimson Tide.

A memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, October 10, 2013, at First United Methodist Church from 5 to 7 p.m. Berryhill Funeral Home is assisting the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations be made to Hospice of the Valley, Decatur Morgan Hospital, or Decatur City Schools Foundation.
