FLORENCE-In honor of Black History Month, Harvey Thompson and Harvey Thompson Jr. will host The Thompson Family Tradition at the Florence/Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau. The free event will take place at 11 a.m. on Feb. 18, 2017 in the Visitors Center Gallery. The Thompson father/son duo will hold an interview session and share stories from their music experiences and family traditions.
Thompson Sr. received his formal education from Tennessee State University,
which led him to FAME Recording Studios in Muscle Shoals. Thompson Sr. joined Harrison Callaway and Ronnie Eades in the FAME Gang, and is a founding member of the Muscle Shoals Horns. He has played with Elton John, B.B. King, Bob Segar and many others. Thompson Sr. was inducted into the Alabama Hall of Fame in 2016.
Harvey Thompson Jr. has performed or recorded with artists such as Percy Sledge and Denise LaSelle. He’s also teaching piano and performing with the Harvey Thompson Trio that also features his dad, Harvey Thompson Sr., tenor saxophonist of the Muscle Shoals Horns.
