Florence Police Arrest Sheffield Man For Shots Fired

FLORENCE-On May 28, 2024, at around midnight, officers were responding to a shots fired
call in the 1100 block of East Bluff Street when they observed a vehicle matching the
description of the suspects leaving the area. The vehicle was stopped, and the occupants
were detained. According to the complainant, Matthew Burnett shot at them while
driving in Sheffield.

The complainant then drove to their residence in Florence. Burnett
arrived shortly afterwards and fired several shots towards the residence. Several rounds
struck the house, and several penetrated the walls. No one was struck.

Matthew Burnett, of Sheffield, was one of the occupants being detained in the
traffic stop and he was arrested and charged with Discharging a Firearm into an
Occupied Building. The motivation behind the shooting is still under investigation.

Matthew Burnett is considered innocent until proven guilty.
