Pastor Felix Wayne Steele, age 78 of Decherd, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 31, 2026, surrounded by his loving family at Centennial Medical Center. He was born on January 16, 1948, in Franklin County, to the late Clennon Alton and Mary Faye (Stephens) Steele. Wayne was a 1966 graduate of Franklin County High and enlisted into the United State Military following graduation. His dedication to serve others was lead through his gospel singing where he would often sing, I Found the Lily in My Valley and was passionate about ministering to those who were lost. He served as the Assistant Pastor of Keith Springs Mountain Church of Jesus with his brother, Harold and later became Sr. Pastor following Harold’s passing. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting, going to the drag races, gardening and working with his hands making beautiful items for his family and friends. But most of all he treasured the time spent with his family. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by, the love of his life, Judy Steele; stepdad, Hence Judge; stepson, Bobby “Ray’ Taylor; siblings, Hershal Judge, Ben “Buster” Steele, Kenneth Steele, Harold Steele, Adrain Steele and Marlin Steele. Wayne is survived by his children, Lynn (Stephanie) Steele, Jason (Brooke) Steele, Skylin (Alyssa) Steele, Samantha (Trenton) Steele, Elijah Steele, and Ella Steele; grandchildren, Julianna (Kyle) Arp , Jocelyn Taylor, Mia Stewart, Bella Steele, Ty (Madison) Cobb, Eli Steele, Madison Russell, Dalton Russell, Boone Steele, Stella Steele, Mikail Garner, and one on the way, great- grandchildren, Hallie Jo Arp, Marceline Stewart, and Everlynn Cobb; siblings, Sherman (Ann) Steele and Phyllis Riddle; stepsister, Margaret Bland; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 4, 2026, from 5:00pm – 8:00pm and again on Friday, June 5, 2026, from 5:00pm 8:00pm at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at 2:00pm from the chapel of Moore-Cortner Funeral Home with Bro. Kelly May and Bro. Darrell Myers officiating.
