Eva Witte departed from this life on March 2, 2013, at her home in Leighton, Ala., to her heavenly home.
She was born in Colbert County on Oct. 5, 1939.
She was a member of Hatton Baptist Church, serving as church organist and clerk for more than 40 years.
She also served as a Sunday school teacher and on many committees.
Eva is now at peace with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who she so faithfully served.
She was a Colbert County High School graduate of class of 1956. She graduated from Lairmore Business College and was 1966-67 president of Epsilon Sigma Alpha. She retired from Reynolds Metal Company after more than 35 years of service. Eva served as the secretary of the Colbert-Lauderdale Baptist Association for almost 20 years. She was a member of the Shoals Praise and Worship Choir.
Visitation will be 1-3 p.m. Sunday, March 3, 2013, at Colbert Memorial Gardens before the memorial service at 3 p.m. in the chapel. Brother Charles James Jr. , Brother Ted Vafeas, Brother Jim Warren and Brother Eddy Garner will officiate. Interment will be at Colbert Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Eva Witte was preceded in death by her parents, Parker and Nora Trousdale; a brother, William; and a sister, Mary Ellen.
Survivors include husband, Barrie Witte; sisters, Lilly (Willard) Nichols, Sandra Thompson and Nettie Joiner; brother, Bobby (Martha) Trousdale; sister-in-law, Rosemary Witte; brother-in-law, Doug Witte; nephews, Lynn Robbins (Ruby), Jason Trousdale (Shannon), Jeremy Trousdale, Anthony Joiner (Kimberly), Jeffery Witte, Michael Witte; nieces, Gail South (Todd), Melissa Montgomery (Robert), Kristi Nichols, April Letson (Anthony), Tammy Lewis; great-nieces and nephews, Holly and Michael Robbins, Whitney Nichols, Marissa and Crystal Montgomery, Trent and Nicholas South, Zoe and Ashley Trousdale, Lyndsey, Kaitlynn, Audrey, Hailey, Emma and Parker Joiner, Kylie Jo Letson, Olivia and Bradley Lewis; great-great nieces and nephews, Carsyn and Gracie Montgomery, Brady Purser, Braxton Sivley and a host of cousins, church family, former co-workers and friends.
Pallbearers will be Pat Patterson, Paul Johnson, Ken Arnold, Johnny Pittman, Fred Simmons and Jim Leonard.
Honorary pallbearers will be past members of the Colbert-Lauderdale Baptist Association, Donald Lenz, Hillard Smith, Billy Joe Crosswhite, Greg Beasley, Greg Woodard, Gary Ledlow and Eddie Thompson.
Special thanks are extended to Dr. James E. Cantrell Jr. of St. Vincent’s Hospital, Dr. Terrence Hart and their entire staffs. Thanks to the staff of Gentiva Hospice.
From the family of Eva – For every moment we had her, we were so blessed. For the rest of our lives that we will miss her, we pray for God’s comfort and support. For the blessed assurance that we will see her again, we thank God for his promise of eternal life.
Special thank you for all the flowers, support, calls, prayers, cards, food and love during Eva’s extended illness for 16 years. She was so blessed to have you all as part of her extended family. She and her family were encouraged by the love shown for her.
