Esther Ernestine Jaggars was born December 14, 1939 in the Gravel Hill Community, the daughter of the late Charles Edward Lttlejohn and Ora Mae Gardner Littlejohn. Her warm spirit and kindness touched the lives of many.
On April 20, 1957, she united in marriage with Wansfell Jaggars, sharing a journey filled with love and devotion. As a charter member of the Eastview Baptist Church, Ernestine devoted herself to her faith and community. She sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, and lent her culinary talents by cooking for church events, embodying the heart and soul of her congregation.
Ernestine’s professional life reflected her strong work ethic, having held positions at Kellogg’s in Corinth, MS, Brown Shoe Company, Sears, and Dr. Bell’s Dentistry in Selmer, TN. Each role allowed her to connect with people, always bringing warmth and compassion to her workplaces.
Ernestine was a kind and caring soul that always put others first. She enjoyed going to the mountains, gardening, canning, and loved cooking for the grandkids and family.
Mrs. Jaggars departed this life on October 3, 2024, in Memphis, Tennessee, leaving behind a legacy of unwavering kindness and a life well-lived. At 84 years old, she will be remembered fondly for her selfless nature and the light she brought into the lives of everyone she met. Her spirit will forever resonate in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Wansfell Jaggars of Eastview, TN; a son, David Jaggars and wife Tammie of Selmer, TN; a daughter, Cindy Jaggars Tidwell and husband Barry of Paducah, KY; five grandchildren: Sarah Grace Mitchell and husband Robert, Meredith Jaggars, Caleb Tidwell, Lauren Arb and husband Noah, Daniel Tidwell; and a great-grandchild, Thomas Mitchell.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Jaggars was preceded in death by a daughter, Loretta Jaggars, and two brothers, Ross Littlejohn and Thomas Littlejohn.
