Graveside Services for Mrs. Esther Ellen Thomas, age 77 of Wedowee, will be held on Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. at Ashbank Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery in Ashbank, Alabama with Pastor Debbie Guthrie officiating. There will be no visitation prior to services.

Mrs. Thomas went home to be with our Lord and Christ on the 5th day of April, 2026 at her home. She was born in Nauvoo, Alabama on July 15, 1948 and was a graduate of Carbon Hill High School. She spent her life as a homemaker raising children, spent several years as a Nurse’s Aide, and worked at the Arrow Shirt factory. Mrs. Thomas enjoyed painting and drawing, watching Westerns, swimming at Smith Lake, and spending time with her grandchildren. She attended Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Delta, and always read her Bible. Mrs. Thomas was nice and polite, and always had a smile on her face.

Mrs. Thomas is survived by Three Daughters: Sarah Carter (David), Victoria Beck (Dell), and Tina Finch; her son, Billy Wade; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; one stepson, Bobby Bell (Robyn) (Four more grandkids and five great-grandkids); two sisters: Virginia Griffith and Jenise German (Claudie), plus many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her first love and husband, Joel Nix; her mother, Audie Lynn; Father, Willard Thomas; Grandparents: William Luther and Dovie Wideman; grandmother, Annie Thomas Pearson; Grandfather, Luther Roy Thomas; and one grandson, David Allen Carter II, and brother in law, Jerry Griffith.

David Carter, Dell Beck, Billy Wade, and Benjamin Wade will serve as pallbearers.

The family of Mrs. Carter would like to give a special Thank you to the Southern Care New Beacon Hospice for the care they provided for their mother.
