Elmer N. Rollins – Obituary

ElmerFuneral for Reverend Elmer N. Rollins, 87, of Decatur will be Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Ralph Henderson will officiate. His grandchildren will read a poem. Burial will be in New Friendship Cemetery. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Reverend Rollins died Sunday, June 23, 2013, at his residence. He was born January 3, 1926, in Morgan County to Andrew Vandy Rollins and Nettie Roberts Rollins. Reverend Rollins was a retired minister from Chapel Baptist and also Bell Springs Baptist. He was a U.S. Navy veteran who served aboard the NRS-Birmingham, AL, NTC-Great Lakes, IU, Tad.- Cen Shoemaker, CA, USS Graffias (AF-29), and USS Molaia(ATF-106). He received victory medals and an Asiatic Pacific Medal. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandchild.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Rollins; two sons, Delmer Rollins (Sonja) of Pensacola, Fla., and Hoyt Rollins (Debra) of Decatur; four daughters, Helen Guess (Paul) and Darlene Parker (Gary), both of Decatur, Marquita Heaps (Rodney) of Trinity and Tammy Moebes (Joe) of Priceville; 18 grandchildren, 18 great- grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Josh Parker, Dan Mackey, Shawn Barber, Gary Parker, Noah Earls, Darrell Beck, Delmer Rollins II and Steve Kellum.
