Elisabeth Jones Griffin, 87, died early Tuesday, April 11, 2023. Dibby was born in McComb, Mississippi and moved with her family to New Orleans and then New Jersey, where she graduated in 1953 from Westfield High School. She then attended the University of Alabama earning a B.S. and M.S degree in home economics. After graduating, she moved to Huntsville and married Bill Griffin in 1959.

Throughout her life, she was very involved in the community. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Chi Omega alums, Huntsville Garden Club, and Huntsville Grace Club. She was President of the Grace Club Auxiliary in 1975, guiding the transition to become a part of the Junior League. Dibby was also known for her sewing, smocking and cross-stitching, making many personal items for her grandkids, nieces and nephews, and friends. She was deeply loved by her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elisabeth and Lamar Jones, and her husband, William Hancock Griffin “Bill” to whom she was married for almost 50 years until his death in 2008. After he passed away, she moved to Austin, Texas, where her daughter and family lived and where she remained until her death.

Survivors include her daughter, Elisabeth Griffin Foster “Betsy” and husband, Jay, and son William Hancock Jr. (Bill); her grandchildren, Elisabeth and Griffin Foster, and William Hancock Griffin III “Tripp”; brothers, James Fly Jones “Jim” and Douglas Lamar Jones “Doug” and wife, Virginia; and several nieces, nephews, and their families.

A memorial service will be held on Friday May 19th at 2:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church of Huntsville. The service will be followed by a reception in the fellowship hall. The Reverend Dr. Tara W. Bulger is officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 307 Gates Ave., Huntsville 35801.
