Eldridge Grady “Pete” Darby, 84, passed away after an extended illness, Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at his residence with his family by his side. He was a native of Wayne County, Tennessee but lived most of his life in Lauderdale County. He was a member of Chisholm Hills Church of Christ, graduate of Collinwood High School, retired from Reynolds Alloys Plant, and a Korean War veteran.
Visitation will be Saturday, May 17, 2014 from 12 – 2 p.m. at Greenivew Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. in Greenview Memorial Chapel with Sonny Owens and Charles Abernathy officiating. Burial will follow in Greenview Memorial Park.
Mr. Darby was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Girdie Darby; brother, James Darby.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Levon May Darby of Florence; daughters, Debra Pruitt, Sherry Witt both of Florence; sister, Tootsie Moore; grandchildren, Timothy Parker of Jackson, TN, Casey Goodwin (Chad) of Denver, CO, Taylor Rowe, Justin Terry both of Florence; great-grandchildren, Aspen and Allyson Goodwin of Denver, CO, Collins and Maggie Parker of Jackson, TN.
Active pallbearers will be Tim Parker, Justin Terry, Chad Goodwin, Steve Darby, Bobby Moore, Terry Oakley, and Wayne Mitchell.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bill and DeWayne Oakley, elders and deacons of Chisholm Hills Church of Christ.
Special thanks to Hospice of the Shoals for the wonderful care you gave to our husband and dad during his illness.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of the Shoals.
