Elaine Edwards Merritt was born on 12/4/1944 to the late Mrs. Mary Baker Edwards and Mr. Theodore Edwards. She was raised in Limestone County along with 7 sisters and 2 brothers.
She joined Liberty Christian Faith Center under the leadership of the late Pastor James Robinson in the 1980’s.
Elaine attended and graduated from J.F. Drake State Community College in Huntsville, Al.
Elaine worked for Huntsville city school system as a custodian for many years until she retired due to health issues.
She was preceded in death by her Husband, Jim Henry Merritt Jr, her mother, Mary baker Edwards, father, Theodore Roosevelt Edwards, two brothers James Allen Ervin and James Calvin Edwards, two sisters, Nannie Miller (Willie), Thelma Crutcher (Billie Fred Crutcher), and her beloved grandson Darius L. Edwards.
Elaine made her peaceful transition on Sunday, May 12, 2024 after a gradual decline in health. She was surrounded by her loving family and caregivers during the last days of her life.
Elaine leaves to cherish her precious memories by her two daughters, Demetria Montgomery (Jeff) of Hazel green, Al and Sherazada (Tina) Merritt of Huntsville, Al. Five grandchildren, Brittany Rogers, Christian Montgomery, Diamond Merritt, Taijase Merritt, and Simeon Montgomery. Two great grandchildren Za’ayir Martin and Skylar Hines. Sisters, Pauline King (Everette King), Irene Mack, Martha Edwards, Dorothy Edwards, Reva Green (Thomas), Verna (Sue) Hines (George), Great friends of hers, Betty Davis and Glenda Mclin and a host of other nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones.
The funeral service for Mrs. Elaine Edwards Merritt will be 2:30 p.m., Saturday, May 18, 2024 at the Royal Chapel of Memories (4315 Oakwood Avenue NW Huntsville, AL 35810) with Reverend Willie Baker officiating.
Public viewing will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Friday, May 17, 2024 and 8:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m., Saturday, May 18, 2024 at the Royal Funeral Home.
