Edwin Paul Schwemmer was born in Watson, Kansas, on March 25, 1934, and died at home February 20, 2020. He was predeceased by his parents David Schwemmer and Eva Bessie Flintham Schwemmer and two sisters: Virginia Luce and Betty Morris. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Frances Ellis Schwemmer, and three sisters: Letha Scarbrough, Mary (Bill) Hockenbarger of Topeka, Kansas, and Alice Darlene Greenwell of Scottsboro, Alabama, and many special nieces and nephews.
He graduated from Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas, with a BS degree in Mathematics, utilizing the GI Bill. He had additional studies in computer science at the Foothill College and the John Hancock College in California. He also completed numerous industrial courses in computer programming. His career began with United Technology Corp. and Federal Electric Crop. at the Western Test Range in Sunnyvale, California. Mr. Schwemmer moved to Huntsville, Alabama to work for the Chrysler Corp. in 1966. He later joined CSC and was the manager of the Kwajalein Missile Range System and Analysis Section. Rather than transfer to another state, he began working for the Sperry Corp. which became Unisys, then Paramax, and later Unisys. He retired in 1994 from Unisys and enjoyed his retirement by playing golf, gardening, and traveling.
The family wishes to thank Hospice Family Care and Mr. Schwemmer’s many doctors for their guidance during the last days of his life. There are no plans for a funeral, but a celebration of life for family and friends will take place in the future.
