Edna Ruth Newton Thompson, 92, of Killen, passed from this life to her Heavenly home on Sunday, April 19, 2026. She retired as a nursing assistant at ECM Hospital. She took much pride in being active in church activities. Ruth also loved to sew, but her greatest joy was spending time with her great-grandchildren and watching them grow for as long as she was physically able to.
Visitation for Mrs. Thompson will be Wednesday, April 22nd at Rogersville Funeral Home from 10-11 a.m. with a graveside service following at 11;30 in Barkley-White Cemetery. Brother Henry Melton and Brother Eddie Wix will be officiating.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Walton O. “Buddy” Thompson; son, Derrell O. Thompson; daughter, Judith Thompson Powell; great-grandson, Jesse Brown; parents, Eaf and Emma Lee Sledge Newton; sisters, Susie Herston Hammond, Essie Walton Coker and Nettie Newton; brothers, Calvin, George, Henry, Robert, Homer and Wheeler Newton. She is survived by her daughter, Debra Ruth (James) Thornton; son-in-law, Travis Powell; granddaughters, Lana Leigh (Russ) Brown and Lyndsay Ruth Powell; grandson, Robert Evan (Kenzie) Hamner; great-grandsons, Lathan Brown, Damian Benson, Dante Benson; great-granddaughter, Lydia (Brandon) Slayton; great-great grandson who will make his appearance in July; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank all the wonderful staff at Lauderdale Christian Nursing Home for their care the last few years. You have all become members of extended family.
