Edmund “Ed” John Sawicki, Jr., age 75, passed away peacefully on Christmas morning 2023, with his son Jason by his side at Huntsville Hospital Hospice Family Care. Ed fought bravely for a long time against numerous medical complications from a stroke in 2012. He is finally free of the physical and mental burdens of this Earth.

Ed was born in Chicago, IL to Edmund F. Sawicki and Marie Gortfa. He was a US Army Vietnam combat veteran and retired police officer. Ed served his community for over 40 years in the Huntsville Police Department and Mayors office.

Ed loved his granddaughters Georgia, 15, Hadley, 12, and Wren. 8. He was passionate about boating and fishing with his friends, fish and aquariums, plants, his Yorkie Heidi Ho, his Ford truck and the El Camino he wished he had not sold. He will be deeply missed by his close friends who remember him for his pranks, humor, quiet soft-spoken personality and caring heart.

His family thanks Huntsville Hospital Hospice Family Care, Right at Home caregivers and Fleming Farms for caring for him through his final years and days.

He was preceded in death by both his parents and his sister, Joanie S. Risse. He is survived by his son, Jason; daughter-in-law, Stacey; his granddaughters; his sisters, Melody Edwards and Sharon Cieck; brother, Shon Wood; and nieces and nephews, Nikki, Mindy, Chaney, Zach, Cory and Jordan.
