dorothy-thompson-1479126190Dorothy N. Thompson 87, of Tuscumbia, Al passed away Sunday November 13, 2016. A rosary will be 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia, AL. A visitation will follow 6:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home. The funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday Nov. 16, 2016 at Our Lady of the Shoals Catholic Church. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Deacon Bill Clawson and Father Ron Runkle will officiate.
Dorothy was a native of Birmingham, AL. She graduated from Deshler High School in 1947. Dorothy was a loving wife, a wonderful mother with great wisdom, a caring sister, a prayer warrior and a faithful servant of God. She was a member of Our Lady of the Shoals Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Equestrian Order of the Catholic Diocese; Women’s Society Our Lady of the Shoals Catholic Church; Past President of Woman’s American Legion Auxiliary; Helen Keller Garden Club; Sacretastrian Committee Shoals Catholic Church; Shoals Catholic Church PTA Sergeant of Arms.
One of Dorothy’s fondest life memories was meeting Pope John Paul II in Italy in 1983.
She was preceded in death by her sons Joseph Thompson and Timothy Thompson; brother Robert Newman, and two grandchildren.
Survivors are her husband of 68 years Carl G. Thompson of Tuscumbia; sons: Paul Thompson of Tuscumbia, Thomas Thompson of Michie, TN, Michael Thompson (Sandra) of Tuscumbia; daughters: Constance Thompson (David) of Sheffield, Mary Thompson of Albany, GA, Anne Thompson Cain (Randall) of Huntsville, AL; sisters: Mary Cantrell of Mesquite, TX and Marie Pace of Colbert Heights, AL; seventeen grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Richard Young, Chris Thompson, Matt Thompson, Jason Thompson, Ryan Thompson, and Chris Boston.
Honorary pallbearers will be Darrell Pace and Brad Thompson.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to all the caregivers, doctors, nurses, family and friends who helped provide care for Dorothy during her illness. May the Lord bless all of you for your kindness.
