Dorothy Mae Kimbrough – Obituary

Dorothy Mae Kimbrough, a long-time resident of Decatur, died Sunday the 17th of December at the age of 85 at Decatur Morgan Hospital. Visitation will be Friday, Dec. 22, 2017 at Roselawn Funeral Home and Cemetery from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. followed by a graveside service. Reverend Jeff Sellers will officiate.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Floyd Kimbrough Sr. and Venice Miller Kimbrough; brothers, Floyd Kimbrough Jr. and William (Bill) Kimbrough; and sisters, Margaret Terry and Thelma Kimbrough.

She is survived by her sisters, Barbara (Jimmy) Cole, of Baytown, Texas and Nelda (Thomas) Segars, of Decatur; sisters-in-law, Marie Kimbrough, of Montgomery and Jean Kimbrough, of Somerville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Born Nov. 22, 1932 in Decatur, Alabama, she graduated from Speake High School. Immediately following school, she began work at South Central Bell Telephone Company, where she retired after 40 years of service. She was a lifelong member of the Telephone Pioneers and Ninth Street United Methodist Church. She was an accomplished seamstress and baker.

Pallbearers will be nephews, Allen Kimbrough, Tim Kimbrough, Jim Boyd, Ken Cole, Jason Segars, and Christopher Segars. Honorary pallbearers will be Sean Boyd, Shannon Boyd, David Gilliland, Doug Durand, Andy Bigham, Jonothon Segars, Jeremey Segars, Samuel Segars, Andrew Segars, Taylor Bigham, Jake Levins, and Jamie and Billy Kimbrough.

The family wishes to thank her caregivers, Jean Kimbrough, Annette Baker, Ann Boyd, June Moody, and Lisa George.
