Dorothy Evelyn Wardell, age 79 of Winchester, passed away on Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at The Waters of Winchester. A native of Franklin County, she was born in Sewanee on July 31, 1943, to the late George and Mary Mabell (White) Sargent. Before her retirement, she worked as a caregiver in the healthcare industry. A very simple, Christian lady, Dorothy loved the Lord and attending Bible studies. She was very family oriented, the center of her family, and was very close with her brothers and sisters. Dorothy will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Cowan. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul “Tex” Wardell Jr; and siblings, Mae Roberts, George Sargent Jr, Roy Sargent, Mary Walton, and Ina Griffin. Dorothy is survived by her loving children, Paul (Linda) Wardell, Wendy R. Wardell, and Wanda (Fred) Miller; grandchildren, Kevin (Anna) Madewell, Meghan (Dusty Rodriguez) Wardell, Austin (Missy) Madewell, Marc (Jasmin) Wardell, Destyni Rood (Denzel Cooper), Mia (Caleb) McGuire, and Morgan Wardell; six great-grandchildren; brother, John (Amy) Sargent; and many nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends. Visitation will be from 12-2 pm on Monday, November 28, 2022, at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow at 2:00 pm in the Moore-Cortner Chapel with Bro. Stephen Reeves officiating.
