Dorothy Eleanor Summerford Newsom, 89, Mantachie, MS, formerly of Cherokee, AL, passed away on Thursday, November 30, 2023. A private service will be held for the family with Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia, assisting. Interment will be in Cherokee Memorial Park.
Dorothy spent most of her life in Cherokee. After moving to Mantachie, she became a member of Bethel Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-four years, J.C. Summerford; son, Micky Summerford; parents, Oswald and Vera Donald; three brothers; and one sister.
Dorothy is survived by her husband, Wayne Newsom; children, Cathy Summerford Malone (Phillip) and Jeff Summerford (Elizabeth); brother, Dwight Donald (Carolyn); sister, Sandra McLeod; grandchildren, Matthew Phillip Malone (Emily) and Mickalyn Summerford Clemons (Paxton); and great-grandchildren, Norah Rose Malone, Madelyn Jane Malone, and Matthew Phillip Malone, Jr.
