Dorothy “Dot” Fay Kimbrough was born on May 20, 1936, to Robert and Lula Mae Aycock and passed away on September 6, 2023, at the age of 87 with her family by her side. Visitation will be Saturday, September 9, from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church Colbert Heights. The funeral service will immediately follow at the church with Dr. Seth Hood and Dr. Mike Sams officiating. Interment will be in Colbert Memorial Gardens, Tuscumbia.
Dot was preceded in death by her daughter, Phyllis; parents, Robert and Lula Mae; brother, Bobby Aycock; and sisters, Fannie Roden and Patricia Ann Aycock.
Dot worked as a beautician for over forty years. She was a salon owner and operator before women in the workplace was common. She spent her career making others feel their best.
Dot was a true example of living out the Gospel. She served faithfully, loved unconditionally, and gave grace endlessly. No one knows this better than her family, whom she was born to love. Dot is survived by her husband of 65 years, Lawrence Kimbrough, Jr. They spent a lifetime as steadfast companions, and Lawrence served her faithfully in her final chapter. Of course, she could still keep him in line; she was a red head after all. Dot’s true pride were her three children – Phyllis Lyle, who preceded her in death; Cindy Hill, and Zac Kimbrough (Leshan). She’s also survived by her youngest brother, Billy Aycock (Donna), whom she loved dearly.
Dot also shined her light on her nine grandchildren – Monica Hollis (Jason); Katie Thompson (Josh); Ryan Lyle (Tori); Vince Lyle (Amber); Jacob Kimbrough; Mackenzie Kimbrough; Hannah Grace Hill; Ethan Elliott, and Maggie Elliott– and six great-grandchildren – Averee and Sawyer Thompson; Carter and Griffin Hollis; and Aiden and Ava Lyle. Countless summers were spent at Meme’s house – having pool parties, drinking her famous milkshakes, and watching movies. Even in her 87th year, you could find her at sporting events, band concerts, and dance recitals. There was no limit to her love and support.
Dot has been an active member of First Baptist Church Colbert Heights for sixty-five years, serving as Nursery Director for several years. If you’ve been sick, had a baby, or experienced tough times, you’ve probably had a meal delivered by Dot. She also dedicated decades of service to the Children’s Ministry, and Mrs. Dot had quite an impact on the hearts of countless children.
The family offers special thanks to Clearview Cancer Center and Hospice of North Alabama.
