Doris Louise Smith Levinson, born on September 3, 1926, in Mandeville, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2025, in her hometown of Huntsville, Alabama.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin Franklin Smith and Verona Ophelia Young Smith; her husband of 52 years, John Robert Levinson; siblings, James Eddie Smith, Lloyd Edward Smith Sr., Benjamin Franklin Smith Jr., Cennett Arthur Smith Sr., Willie Ethel Ferguson, Dorothy Alma Roberts, Grace Altrice Foster, Fannie Katherine Adams, and Florence Alva Curry.

Doris is survived by her son, James Robert “Bob” Thomas; and her daughter, Rebecca “Becky” Levinson. She was a devoted grandmother to Jonathan Thomas and Bradley Winters (Katelyn), and a proud great-grandmother to Chase Lancon, Shaelyn Lancon, and Jonathon Thomas. Doris also leaves behind her beloved niece, Lisa Smith Hamilton, and wonderful friend and caregiver, Ludia Mitchell.

During her career, she began working for the Veterans Administration in Washington, D.C., during World War II, contributing to the war effort. Later, her career continued in Huntsville where she worked for several nonprofit organizations, dedicating herself to serving the community.

Doris will be fondly remembered for her warm spirit, unwavering kindness, and the love she shared with her family and friends. Her legacy of compassion and devotion will continue to inspire all who knew her.
