Donnie McClellan Cooper passed on April 30th, 2025 at Huntsville Hospital.
Donnie was born on August 18, 1949. He was raised, and lived in New Hope, AL for most of his life. He is proceeded in death by his mother and father, Janie Cooper and Willie Cooper, and his siblings Bonnie, William, and Bobby Cooper and Lois Jean Mason. He is survived by his sons Philip Cooper, Casey Cooper, his brother Charles “Wonnie” Cooper and wife Donna, and Doris Moore and her husband Thomas.
Donnie was drafted into the Vietnam War in 1971 and returned the following year. He was married to Sharon Hunter (Stapler) in 1973 and later that year, his first son, Phillip Cooper was born. In 1978, his second son, Casey Cooper was born. Donnie worked 38 years at Joe Money Machinery and retired in 2011.
Donnie will be remembered by his loved ones and friends for his kindness and generosity. He loved farming, admiring the beauty of nature especially his land, but most of all, he loved his sons. Each year he looked forward to a trip to the beach with his family, and always wanted ”a place with a view”. His giving nature and gentleness is the hallmark memory of all who knew him.
The family would like to especially thank Donna and Charles “Wonnie” Cooper, who have aided them tirelessly and courageously. They would also like to thank the staff at Huntsville Hospital who did everything in their power to help Donnie recover and be comfortable.
In lieu of flowers please donate to the Hayden Cemetery for grounds upkeep.
Visitation will be Sunday 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at New Hope Funeral Home. Services will follow at 2:00 pm with Rev. Dewayne Martin officiating.
Interment will be in Hayden Cemetery.
