Donna Wells, age 74 of Fort Payne, passed away on October 29, 2025, at Huntsville Hospital, Alabama, after a five-year battle with cancer. She was born on July 21, 1951, in Jackson County, Mississippi, to William and Burnice Powell Rasmussen. She was raised in Moss Point, MS; graduated in 1969 from the local high school, after which she attended and received as Associates Degree in Nursing at the local community college. Donna worked as a Registered Nurse in Surgery at several local hospitals on the Gulf Coast. Donna met the love of her life and married Robert Wells in 1976, residing in Ocean Springs, MS., for thirty years.
Most of her career was at Biloxi VA Hospital until she retired in 2006. After retirement the Wells’ moved to Fort Payne, Alabama. Donna was active in the DeKalb County Master Gardeners, Fort Payne Garden Club, and enjoyed traveling through Alabama, Georgia, and Florida as a Flower Show Judge.
A Celebration on Life for Donna Rasmussen Wells will be on Friday, November 7, 2025 at 10 a.m. with visitation at 9:30 a.m. in the Christian Life Center at the First Methodist Church in Fort Payne. Another celebration of life will be held on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi at a later date to be determined.
Donna is preceded in death by her mother and father and infant brother William; brother-in-law, Mike Howard and sister-in-law, Janet Rasmussen.
She is survived by her husband of almost fifty years, Robert; daughter, Olivia Doriocourt (Kevin) of Mountain Home, Arkansas; and Scott Wells (Keri) of St. Martin, Mississippi; grandchildren, Teigen Wells (Trenton), Kaeden Oden, Ian Carter, Sanzin Doriocourt, Liam Wells, Jaxon Truong, and Giovanni Martello; great-grandchildren, Weylan and Wylie McGoron; and siblings, Robert Rasmussen, Juanita Howard, Thomas Rasmussen (Shirley), Elizabeth Wyatt (Carl) and Richard Rasmussen (Carolyn).
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
