Donald Gibbs, age 54, of Sheffield, Alabama, passed away Friday, Feb. 13, 2015. Visitation will be 1-3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15, 2015, at Annapolis Avenue Church of Christ in Sheffield. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. at Annapolis Avenue Church of Christ, with burial to follow at Colbert Memorial Gardens. Mr. Gibbs was a loving husband and best friend to his wife Paula for 35 years, and a devoted father and grandfather, “he was their Superman.”
He was preceded in death by his father, John Gibbs, and brothers, David Gibbs and John Gibbs II.
Survivors include wife, Paula, of 35 years; son, Chris Gibbs (Dana); daughter, Christy Gibbs; granddaughter, Mattie Gibbs; mother, Jean Gibbs; sister, Brenda White (Carl); a host of loving nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Jamie White, Justin White, Michael Ellett, Bradley Ellett, Brian Berry and Jay Puckett. Honorary pallbearers will be the maintenance team at Styrolution, Phillip Young and Tony Hamm.
Mr. Gibbs was a member of Annapolis Church of Christ in Sheffield. He was employed with Styrolution in Decatur, Alabama. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital . Special thanks to the staff at the blood and cancer center and to Helen Keller Hospital for the care they gave him and a very special thanks to Ian Dodge for the care and comfort that he provided for Don and family.
