Don-Collinsworth-1450097606Don G. Collinsworth 94, of Tuscumbia, passed away Sunday December 13, 2015. Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Tuesday December 15, 2015 at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. The funeral service will be 12:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Colbert Memorial Gardens. Bro. Barrett Long and Bro. Richard Parker will officiate.
Don was a native of Palmetto, GA. He was a veteran of WWII having served in the 8th Air Force 1943 – 1945 in the 385th Bomber Grp in Ipswich, England; having earned American Theater, European-African-Middle Eastern Ribbons, Good Conduct Medal, and a WWII Victory Medal. He was retired from Southern Railway with 40 years of service. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Tuscumbia.
Don was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed spending his time in the field with family and friends. His other pastimes included watching sports, especially basketball and football, “chasing squirrels” with his dog Rusty, and taking time to talk with others about his faith and relationship with Jesus Christ.
He left his family and friends with many memories and lessons in life, but none more significant than the importance of integrity, faith, and hard work.
He is proceded in death by his grandson Steven Chad Collinsworth and his brothers C.O. Collinsworth and R.A. Collinsworth.
He is survived by his wife of 73 years Frances Godbee Collinsworth, Tuscumbia; his sons: Jerry Collinsworth (Sandra) and Steve Collinsworth (Debra) all of Tuscumba; his brother Thomas E. Collinsworth of Hampton, VA; seven grandchildren: Craig Collinsworth (Tracey), Gary Collinsworth (Elizabeth), Jenna Collinsworth, Emily Collinsworth, Cody Collinsworth and Hannah Collinsworth and three great-grandchildren: Carson Willingham, Chandler Collinsworth, and Shelby Burbank.
Pallbearers will be Craig Collinsworth, Gary Collinsworth, Allen Collinsworth, Terry Collinsworth, Adam Wilbanks, Bobby Merryman, and Jimmy Bacon.
Honorary pallbearers will be Cody Collinsworth, Carson Willingham, and Chandler Collinsworth.
Special thanks to the staff at Helen Keller Hospital, and doctors Karr and Syed, for their professionalism and deep compassion; and to his caretakers Gloria Bolton, Kathy Fuller, Helen Irons, and Annette Gregory.
