She became a Christian during a revival at West Huntsville Baptist Church. She told her mom that she wanted to be a Christian one morning after one of the revival services and her mom showed her in the bible how to be saved and she was also baptized at that time; she was about 8 to 10 years old.
She took piano beginning in elementary school and she was one of the first pianists at Whitesburg Baptist Church when the congregation was founded. She continued playing either the piano or organ until she went off to college.
