Dewie Lee May, age 87, passed away Wednesday October 14, 2026 at his son’s home from an extended illness. Dewie was a Sequatchie County native born on April 5, 1939 to the late Clarence and Annie Savage May. He was a stonemason, loved to hunt, fish and spending time outdoors. He attended the Church of God Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by, sons; Richard and Roger May, daughter; Kim May, brother and sister-in-law; Bud and Gert May, sisters; Ruby Songer and Lucille Smith, daughter-in-law; Mary May, great-granddaughters; Mary Kay Hale and Charlee Caldwell, foster parents; John and Delphia Savage..
Dewie is survived by his loving family, sons; Harvey May and Calvin (Jennifer) May, William “Bill” (Lisa) Murphy, daughter, Sarah (Rick) Burkholder, sister; Beatrice DeBoer, brother-in-law; Teddy Smith, sixteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. A large extended family also survives.
Funeral services will be held Saturday October 17, 2026 at 2:00pm in the Layne Chapel with Bro. Elmer Blaylock officiating. Burial will follow in Rainey-Dill Cemetery. Visitation times are Friday 4:00pm-9:00pm and Saturday 9:00am till time of service at 2:00pm.
