Thomas Harvey Chaffee III
DECATUR-The Decatur Police Department released a statement on the alleged rape of a 15 year-old-girl:
“On July 23rd, 2015 a report was filed with the Decatur Police Department in reference to a Rape. The suspect 48-year-old Thomas Harvey Chaffee III had allegedly raped 15-year-old female.
During the course of the investigation a forensic interview was conducted on the female at the National Children’s Advocacy Center in Huntsville, Alabama.
The case was presented to the Morgan County Grand Jury. The Grand Jury indicted Chaffee on one count of Rape in the 1st degree, one count of Rape in the 2nd Degree, one count of Sodomy in the 1st Degree, and one count of Sodomy in the 2nd Degree.
On June 24, 2016, Chaffee was arrested on the charges and processed through the Decatur City Jail. Chaffee was then transported to the Morgan County Jail in lieu of a $200,000 bond.
Rape in the 1st Degree is a Class A Felony
Rape in the 2nd Degree is a Class B Felony
Sodomy in the 1st Degree is a Class A Felony
Sodomy in the 2nd Degree is a Class B Felony”
