Deborah “Debbie” Burton Rubino, age 55, of Double Springs, Alabama, passed away on June 15, 2016.

Debbie was born on May 2, 1961 in Birmingham, Alabama, and grew up in the Hoover area. She attended W. A. Berry High school (1979) and was a graduate of University of Montevallo, where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She married Nathan “Tod” Rubino on August 17, 1985. Debbie was employed as a licensed dietician in her younger years, but found her true calling later as a wife, mother and owner of Garage Sale Etc. in Double Springs, Alabama. Garage Sales, Etc. was where she displayed her talents by taking ordinary items and creating new life and beauty. Mostly, Debbie loved the children. All the children, regardless of age or relation, whether relatives or kids in the community, flocked to her wherever she was, encircling her hoping for her words of love and attention which she tirelessly gave without fail. She comforted those of all ages that she sensed needed a boost or an ear, whether they wanted it or not. Her motto was “if you feel the need to help, do it until somebody tells you to stop”. A gifted songwriter and singer, talents she passed on to her sons. She played her songs in weddings, churches, hospitals and nursing homes. Debbie’s family misses her very much.

She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Nathan “Tod” Rubino; two children, Frank Rubino and Ben Rubino; two grandchildren, Reyna Rubino and Jeremiah Rubino; her mother, Louise Burton; her sister and brother–in-law, Jan and Arthur Deagon; her brother and sister-in-law, Taylor and Erin Burton; her sister, Angie Burton; six nephews and two nieces.

The family will receive friends on Monday, June 20, 2016 from 3:00-4:00 p.m. at Vestavia Hills Baptist Church, followed by a memorial service at 4:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Vestavia Hills Baptist Church.
