Debbie Anderman, long-time Huntsville resident, tennis enthusiast, and lover of Christ passed away on Tuesday evening at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Debbie succumbed to a multi-year battle with breast cancer. She was born on August 19th, 1957, Deborah Jean Harding, to Mary Jean Harding and David Rees Harding in Birmingham, AL. In 1975, she went on to graduate from Berry High School, where she was the valedictorian of her class. There, she was a member of the tennis team and developed her lifelong love for tennis. Debbie then attended the University of Alabama, where she earned the distinguished Outstanding Marketing Student Award, and graduated in Marketing, Magna Cum Laude in 1979. At Alabama, she was a member of the Delta Zeta sorority and has been a proud supporter of the University ever since. Her professional career focused on accounting and business administration for numerous companies in both Birmingham and Huntsville.
After college, Debbie moved to Huntsville with her family, where she was engaged with many passions. If you knew her, you knew that she was always active, and put everything she had into the relationships and activities that were important to her. She was a tennis and running supporter in the community. As a long-time member of the Alabama USTA, Athletic Club Alabama, and the former president of the Huntsville Women’s Tennis Association, the number of tennis teams she played on over the years is truly unbelievable. Relationships formed there were extremely special to her. Debbie was an involved mother to her boys, and devoted her life to supporting them, whether that meant traveling around the Southeast for sports and school functions or spending time with her beloved grandchildren. She had a special place in her heart for the Alabama beaches where she would vacation with her family. We will always picture her sitting on the beach under her umbrella as the day fades away.
Debbie is preceded in death by her loving father and mother, David and Mary Jean Harding. She is survived by her husband, Clyde “Andy” Anderman, who she met, where else, playing tennis. She is also survived by her sister, Lisa Abernathy and her husband, Ron, of Abbeville and their family; her son, Allen Mayer of Birmingham, his wife, Brittany, and their children, Ellis (4), Rees (2), and Darby (1); and her son, Bryan Mayer of Huntsville, his wife, Laura Ann, and their children, Carlisle (“Carl”, 4) and Ann Harding (3).
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, October 15, 2021, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 16 in the funeral home chapel.
Memorial donations may be made to the Clearview Cancer Institute (CCI) in Huntsville, or the Whitesburg Christian Academy tennis team.
