David Vaughan Goodlett passed away at home 19 March 2024.
David was born 29 December 1931 on the family farm in rural Lawrence County to David Kyle and Sarah
Elizabeth Holland Goodlett. David grew up in Sheffield where his family moved in early 1930’s. He
attended Sheffield schools, graduated in June 1950, and left for active duty Navy in August 1950. Upon
discharge he returned to Sheffield, attended Florence State Teachers’ College, transferred to API
(Auburn University) and graduated March 1956. Along with his parents David was a charter member of
Highland Methodist Church, where he met his future wife. He married Peggy Jean Robinson in March
1955, retired from Farmers’ Home Administration in 1989, and moved to the Goodlett family farm in
Moulton in 1990. David loved woodcarving, gardening roses and vegetables. David’s most prized
processions were his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a member of Moulton
Methodist Church. At the urging of Butch Walker, David carved the Sequoyah statue on display at
Oakville Indian Museum.

David was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Eloise Goodlett, Noreen Goodlett Trowbridge, Kyle
Holland Goodlett, son-in-law Tom Chandler, nephew, Chase G. Trowbridge and niece, Sandra Goodlett
Ingram. David is survived by wife, Peggy; son David Robinson Goodlett (Donna), Victoria BC and their
sons, David Minter Goodlett, Baltimore and Graham Robinson Goodlett, Victoria BC; daughter Elaine
Goodlett Chandler, Deatsville, Alabama and children, Cecil Vaughan Lewis (Jordan), Deatsville, Aubree
Lewis Hogan (Wade Maddalena), Verbena, Alabama; daughter Elizabeth Goodlett McAllister (Mark),
Altamont, Tennessee and children Alexandria Vaughan Richey, Anchorage, Jacob Dinsmore Richey,
Moulton, and Sophia Elizabeth McAllister, Mobile. Great-grandchildren are Harper Vaughan Lewis,
Sarah Blayke Lewis and Harlan Rhay Hogan. Brother-in-law, Richard L. Robinson, Jr. (Peggy Joyce)
Sheffield, Alabama, sister-in-law, Norelyne Goodlett, Lexington, Kentucky, nieces Sherry Goodlett Heflin,
Susan Goodlett Falvey, Heather Robinson Watkins, Carol Trowbridge Carpenter, nephews David Carlin
Goodlett, David Dinsmore Trowbridge, James Hallows Trowbridge, and Richard L. Robinson, III also
survive David.

Pallbearers are Mark David McAllister, Cecil Vaughan Lewis, David Minter Goodlett, Richard LaFayette
Robinson, Jr., David Carlin Goodlett, Matthew Watkins, David Dinsmore Trowbridge, and James Hallows
Trowbridge. Honorary pallbearers Graham Robinson Goodlett, Jacob Dinsmore Richey and Richard L.
Robinson III.

Service at Moulton Methodist Church with Dr. Rev. Kenneth Jackson and Rev. Wannell Scott and Elliott’s
directing. Visitation at the church from 12-1 p.m. Funeral to follow at 1 with burial following at the
Shoemaker Cemetery.
The family expresses their sincere gratitude to Hospice of the Valley and especially to Elana, Shenika,
Mary, Brittany, Brandie and Rich for their loving care of David and our family. A special thank you to Dr.
S. N. Gillespie for his friendship and care of David over the years.
