David M. Sobers, Sr. (74), of Lineville, Alabama, passed away unexpectedly on September 26th, 2022. David was born on March 17, 1948, in Pascagoula, Mississippi, to John David Sobers, Jr. and Genevieve Ninneman Sobers. After graduating from Clinton High School in 1966, he went on to study Electronics Engineering at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana. Following college, he worked as a Technical Services Engineer and Trainer for Xerox for 33 years.
Early in his college years, he met Linda Robertson and they wed in 1968, going on to have three children, Deborah, Michael, and Patrick. From 1978 through 2003 they lived in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. There, David and Linda raised their children, made many long-lasting friendships, and David served as a deacon and sound engineer at Parkview Baptist Church, where he was affectionately known by the youth as “Super Dave”. In 2003, David and Linda moved to Lineville, Alabama, to be near family and retire in the community of Clairmont Springs, where Linda’s mother was from.
In Clairmont Springs, he quickly became a pillar of the community. He worked for Harris Plumbing and Electric as an electrician, plumber, and all-around handyman. In addition to serving as a deacon in Clairmont Springs Baptist Church, he served as a firefighter with the Idaho Volunteer Fire Department, enjoyed hunting with the Idaho Hunting Club, fishing with family and friends, and he was famous as the local expert in small engine repair.
David was best known for his loving relationships as husband, brother, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. He will be long remembered for his years of service to the Lord, in his home churches and through numerous foreign mission trips to Central America. His grandchildren will never forget “Pops” for his endearing sense of humor, and his ability to fix anything that needed fixing.
David is predeceased by his father John David “J.D.” Sobers Jr. and mother Genevieve “Boots” Ninneman Sobers, and Linda’s parents Dr. George Levin Robertson and Florence Horn Robertson. David is survived by his wife of 54 years, Linda; his daughter, Deborah Sobers Grant; two sons, David Michael Sobers Jr. and his wife Christy, and John Patrick Sobers and his wife Macie; his grandchildren: Kelsey Lyn Grant, Nathan Michael Sobers, Allison Grace Sobers, Lily Catherine Sobers, John Reed “J.R.” Sobers, and Harper Hayes Sobers; and sister Johnnie Bordelon and her husband Steve Anthony Bordelon, as well as many nieces and nephews.
