Lt Col (Ret.) David L. Brown, United States Air Force, 75, of Hayesville, NC, formerly of
Hamilton, AL went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 7, 2026.
Funeral Services will be Sunday, July 12, 2026, with full Military Honors.
Visitation from 12-2 pm and Service at 2 pm. Burial to follow in Hamilton Memory
Gardens.
He was born in Birmingham, AL on Monday, February 26, 1951 to the late Merlon and Edith
Jean Brown. He was the Great Grandson (x2 greats) to Capt. A. J. Hamilton, whom the town of
Hamilton is named after.
David grew up on a farm in the Barnesville Community and was a member of the Barnesville
Freewill Baptist Church. David graduated from Hamilton High School in 1969. While in High
School he obtained his private pilot license. He went on to attend the University of Alabama in
the United State Air Force ROTC program. He graduated with a B. S. degree in Business
in1973 and was commissioned in 1974.
Upon graduation David entered the Air Force full time where he began Pilot Training (UPT).
David would go on to have a distinguished aviation career. His early years included flying the
F4-E Phantom. In 1981 he was selected to the prestigious Aggressor Training in Nellis AFB in
Las Vegas.
In the aggressor squadron he was stationed in England where he flew simulated combat
engagements against all US and NATO forces. During simulated combat he was never defeated
in air to air combat while flying against the best US and NATO pilots. He then was named
Executive Officer of the USAF Wing Europe. He would later serve as a F5-E Tiger II pilot as an
Air to Air Instructor.
David then was transferred to intelligence where he served as Chief Intelligence Officer for Air
Force Special Operations in Desert Storm 1. David’s last stop was an analyst for the NSA
(National Security Agency) where he retired after 26 years of service.
While stationed in Ft. Meade, MD, he met and married his wife Catherine Brown. David and
Catherine lived in Hamilton for several years before moving to Hayesville, NC, which is a close
knit aviation community.
