It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of David Hood Morris, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. David passed away on June 3, 2026, leaving behind a wonderful legacy of love, laughter, hard work, and cherished memories.
Born on September 13, 1945, in Gadsden, Alabama, David was the beloved son of Troxell and Zue Morris. He grew up with them on their family farm in Coats Bend, Alabama, a place that helped shape the values of dedication, faith, and family that he carried throughout his life. He now joins his parents in eternal peace.
David is survived by his devoted wife, Sarah Morris, with whom he shared a remarkable 50 years of marriage. Together, they built a life filled with love and devotion, creating a lasting example of commitment and partnership for their family.
A proud father, David leaves behind his sons, Swane (Jennifer) Morris, Barry Yancy, and Paul (Paula) Yancy, who will forever cherish the wisdom, guidance, and love he shared with them. He was a proud grandfather to Baylee (Caleb) Browning, Dixon Morris, Kaleb (Autumn) Yancy, and Lyndsay McDaniel, and a treasured great-grandfather to Symphony Yancy, August Yancy, and Tripp Browning. His legacy will continue to live on through each of them.
David dedicated 30 years of service to Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, where he was known for his strong work ethic and unwavering commitment. Beyond his career, he was an accomplished auto body repairman who spent more than five decades in the garage he proudly built behind his home, repairing and painting cars. He passed his skills and passion for craftsmanship on to both his children and grandchildren, leaving them with not only valuable knowledge but also treasured memories.
He also found great joy in coaching baseball for his sons’ teams, taking pride in their accomplishments and the time they spent together on and off the field.
An avid hunter and fisherman, David enjoyed countless hours outdoors with family and friends. Noccalula Hunting Club held a special place in his heart, where he created lasting memories and lifelong friendships.
David appreciated life’s simple pleasures. He found happiness in time spent at home with family and friends, watching the world go by from his carport, and caring for the hummingbirds that returned each year. Feeding them became a cherished tradition that he especially enjoyed sharing with Sarah.
Though our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather is no longer physically with us, his presence will forever remain in our hearts. While we find comfort in knowing his earthly pain has ended, the loss we feel is immense. We are eternally grateful for the years, memories, and love we shared with him.
A graveside service for David will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at Lebanon Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at Collier-Butler Funeral Home on Saturday prior to the service.
David Hood Morris will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him. May his memory forever be a blessing.
