With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and uncle, Darrell Lynn Wilkinson. Darrell passed away peacefully at home in The Woodlands, TX after a long illness at the age of 71.
Born in Wadley, Alabama, on March 2, 1954, Darrell graduated from Lineville High School in 1972 before joining the U.S. Air Force. He later attended Jacksonville State University, where he earned his degree in accounting. After relocating to Texas, he started his career in the oil and gas industry, working with Mitchell Energy in The Woodlands, then Huber Energy. Eventually, he and a few partners founded Compass Energy. Along the way, Darrell continued his education, earning his bachelor’s degree from the University of Houston and later obtaining his CPA. His career also included time with Southwestern Energy.
Darrell married Margot in May of 1982, and together, they moved to The Woodlands in 1983. They went on to have two sons, Christopher Scott and Jason Lynn, and were blessed with three grandchildren: Claire Elizabeth, Vylet Renay, and Alaric Scott.
Darrell was a man of faith and loved his family deeply. He enjoyed tinkering with electronics and outdoor activities including boating, water and snow skiing, fishing, and making cherished memories with his granddaughters.
He is survived by his loving wife, Margot; sons, Christopher and Jason; daughters-in-law, Amanda and Liz; grandchildren, Claire, Vylet, and Alaric; his mother, Ramona Wilkinson; sisters, Kerry Tomlin (Tony), Gail Foster (Steve), and Mona Cowart (Rick); brothers, Glenn (Sally), Ronnie (Iris), Anthony (Laura), and Chad (Donalyn); and a number of nieces, nephews, and other family members who loved him dearly.
Darrell was preceded in death by his father, Aubrey Daun Wilkinson, and his grandparents, Raymond and Otha Robertson, and Swanee and Burl Wilkinson.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and dedication to his family and career.
