Daniel J. Felder, a distinguished veteran of the United States Army, departed this life on October 13th, 2023, after a short battle with cancer. His passing came just 18 days after the loss of his beloved wife of 50 years. The close proximity of their departures speaks to the inseparable bond they shared, and many find comfort in the belief that he made a swift journey to be by her side. Let’s hope she agrees.
He was reunited in death with his parents, James and Laverne Felder; brother, Mark Felder; wife, Ae Su Felder and their firstborn infant son.
Daniel, affectionately known as ‘Dan’, dedicated two decades of his life in service to our nation. At just 18, he enlisted as a Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) and rose through the ranks, achieving the title of Sergeant First Class (SFC). His unwavering commitment and devotion to duty were evident in every role he undertook.
During his military service, Dan’s passion for mentoring the next generation led him to Wright State University, where he served on staff as an ROTC Cadre. There, he was not just an instructor, but a beacon of inspiration, motivating young soldiers and nurturing their leadership potential. Dan’s influence as a mentor and role model left an indelible mark on many who had the privilege to learn from him.
Throughout his illustrious military career, Dan was stationed in various installations, from the DMZ in South Korea to Belgrade, Yugoslavia. His final post was at Redstone Arsenal, where he served with distinction as the Senior NCO of the Special Security Detachment.
Dan’s exemplary service did not go unnoticed. He was the proud recipient of numerous accolades, including The Army Commendation Medal w/2 Oak Leaf Cluster, Joint Service Commendation Medals w/1 Oak Leaf Cluster, The Meritorious Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal w/ Bronze Service Star, Overseas Service Ribbon, Armed Service Expeditionary Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal (6th Award).
He is survived by his cherished sons Chris Felder (Manuela) and Ronnie Felder (Andrew); sisters Janet Heinzelmann and Barb Sommers and 6 nieces and nephews.
His legacy is a testament to a life well-lived, dedicated to service, leadership, and mentorship. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
