Dan Long

Mr. Dan Long of New Market passed away peacefully on Friday evening while surrounded by his loving family.  He was 74.    Mr. Long grew up in the the Ardmore, Alabama area.

Dan had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh and to make others laugh.  He enjoyed sharing jokes and cutting up with those around him.   His family will remember his passion for singing and playing his guitar.  He was a fan of old, classic country music. Throughout his working life, Mr. Long was a gifted carpenter and was gifted at everything he did.   He could build or fix anything, do plumbing and electrical work, and was a jack-of-all-trades.  His family will forever affectionately remember his redneck engineering abilities.

Dan was most proud of his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and cherished spending time with them.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Monroe Lee & Jenny Mae Long;  His brothers, Edward Lee Long and Larry Paul Long;  His sister, Virginia Mae Oliver.

Surviving family members include his beloved wife of 56 years, Vicki Long;   His son, Danny Long;  His daughter, Melissa King; His five grandchildren:  Matthew Long, Bree Welch, Amanda Childers, Caitlin King, and Michelle King; His four great-grandchildren:  Blakely, Rhiley, Hadley, and Atticus;  His sister, Joyce White. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and many friends.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5pm until 7pm at Hazel Green Funeral Home.
