Obituary of Dallas Woodard Fox Born: July 13, 1954 in Memphis, TN

Died: February 9, 2025 in Oxford, MS

Dallas Fox, age 70, passed away on Sunday, February 9m, 2025 at the Mississippi Veterans Home in Oxford, MS, after suffering from Parkinson’s Disease. He is survived by daughters, Kelly Leggett (Rick Leggett) and Jennifer Fox-McCain (Cindy Fox-McCain), and grandchildren Joseph Broy, Lydia Leggett (Jordan Duncan), Kyra Ruiz, Delilah Ruiz, Drew Ruiz, and Benjamin Ruiz.

He was an Air Force Veteran, entering active duty on 10/25/1972, and Honorably Discharged on 11/24/1976 with the Rank of Sergeant.

He lived in his home state of Tennessee for many years. The Air Force sent him to Texas and Alaska. He then spent the latter part of his life living in and around both Birmingham, Alabama and Atlanta, Georgia.

Dallas worked at various jobs including landscaping, irrigation design and sales; a Certified Oracle Professional customer service and help desk support; Security Manager at a music venue; Certified Massage Therapist; and dressed as a purple dinosaur among other characters, he spent many years as a children’s performer, including 25 years as a professional Santa Claus.

He enjoyed all things mechanical, building a small plane with his father and soloing at age 16, and continuing on with a love of cars and motors, maintaining a lifelong subscription to Car and Driver Magazine. He became an accomplished river rafter and served as a guide to many folks’ first river adventures. He was an avid leather worker, and made belts, bags, and other accessories. He also built several Inkle Looms and shared his love of strap weaving with many fellow enthusiasts. He was a fine guitar player and sang and played everything from classical Spanish to Rock ‘n Roll to traditional Irish tunes. He loved sushi, a good craft beer and KitKat bars. Dallas enjoyed the history club The Society for Creative Anachronism, and as “Damon Fox” he became well-known for his cooking contributions many large gatherings, eventually recognized as “The Bar-B-Que Baron’. All dogs loved him, and he loved them right back. He was an avid reader, with paper, audio, and Kindle books always at hand, especially science fiction. His friends remember him for his quick wit and brilliant smile.

Funera Arrangements: Dallas will be laid to rest at the West Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery in Memphis, TN. Following Dallas’ wishes there will be no formal funeral. Dallas requested his loved ones celebrate his life in a way they feel would remember him best. So please raise a beer, martini, sushi roll, oyster on the half shell, or dealer’s choice to Dallas.
