It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of Cynthia “Cindy” Anne Chapman on October 2, 2026, in Athens, Alabama.
Cindy was born January 8, 1941, the youngest of Andrew and Margaret Phelps. Cindy lived her entire life in Maine until she moved to Alabama in 2014. She met the love of her life, Robert “Chappie” Chapman, when they both worked at Sears in Augusta, Maine, and they married in March of 1982.
Cindy is survived by her daughters Lois Kortz (Mike) and Karen Bossie (Michael Bossie); her son Craig Milbury (Kathleen Whitmore). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Sheryl Raddin (Alex), Steve Bossie, Fawn Michaud, and Izabella Milbury; as well as a number of nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren and many other family and friends.
Cindy is preceded by her mother Margaret Griffin, her father Andrew Phelps, her stepfather Wesley Cullins and her sister Janet Gagnon. Cindy is also preceded by her loving husband, Chappie, who she loved most dearly from the time they met, through his battle with Alzheimer’s, and until his death. She has now happily joined him.
A graveside service is tentatively planned for next spring at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta, Maine, where she will be laid to rest alongside her beloved Chappie.
